The majority of burglaries that have been reported to the Police have had laptops, TV's, jewellery and money stolen. Burglars are making their entry by gaining access through unsecure windows and doors, this was the method used by more than half of the burglaries reported. Other methods have included smashing windows before making off.

The Police are patrolling the hot spot areas on a regular basis and performing stop and search checks and they are utilising every resource that they have available to them including the mounted section, the dog unit and they are working closely with the volume crime team. They have set up an operation code named Operation Copely which has been set up to analyse crime patterns and look and known criinals and suspects.

Double check PVC doors to ensure that the locking mechanism has been utilised correctly. Even lock your door when you are in at home, even if you just pop into the house to pick up something. Burglars will try every opportunity they get, most PVC doors aren't locked properly and Burglars will try the handle and steal whatever is close to the dooreven whilst you are at home! Please do not leave valuables such as Hand Bags and Car Keys by your door or in areas that can be accessed easily.

Don't make it easy for Burglars, burglaries can affect people in many differnt ways, some people never feel safe in their own home, some people take years to get over a burglary, please remember to lift the handle, turn the key and lock them out!!!
